Animated Notifications

Is there a way to go back to the static image notifications? With the static images I could see the image on my watch, now the watch notification is pretty useless. Add to that there is pretty big delay to load the GIF, it makes more sense to just open the app. With the static images 90% of the time I could determine what was going on without even opening the app.
