Alternate IR sources

I retract bad things I wrote about an IR source that I wasn’t using properly.

Hmm, if you’re willing to spend that kind of money, maybe it is time to consider upgrading to a v4? The V4 has superior night vision and also a built in light. They are on sale and literally a few bucks more than the item you posted. Pro tip, if you have an Amazon prime account, order it from them to save $0.01 and get free shipping. Only downside is your warranty is reduced to 12-months versus 18-months if ordered directly from WYZE.

Thanks, but I’d prefer a separate source to eliminate the glare of direct reflection while also reducing the heat & lights which attract insects to the camera.

Fair enough. It sounds like you are using the camera outside based on your insect comment. With the slightest bit of outdoor light, like a street lamp for instance, the v4 may not even need to use IR sensors. The night vision is very impressive on the v4. If it doesn’t do the trick, you could always return it like you plan to do with the item in your original post.

With that said, if you still want to try additional IR sources instead of a V4…here is a old thread on Redit:

Here is another thread from the WYZE forum:

Keep in mind, these are old threads and likely discussing the use of old cameras. People may not even need all that additional IR light with a v4.

Edit: Here is a more recent thread on the forum:

Thanks. Cams are outdoors and in a rural area where moon & stars are the only light at night. I’ll definitely look into those links.

I use this model with both my Reolink’s and Wyze cams, works great and is 850nm IR

Cool! Based on where the time/date stamp is, that video looks to be from one of your Reolink cams. Do you have something similar from a WYZE cam?

Thanks, byronhu! I have the DI10 from that mfr on order. Hopefully, I’ll share a “glowing" endorsement in the near future. Have you observed reduced glare and/or insect activity after using a separate ir source?

Only one I could find, don’t use the Wyze cams much

Will have to get a video of on vs. off on the v3 maybe tonight?

If unable to view video, download to view…

Ironic that a video from a Wyze cam V3 doesn’t post well to the Wyze forum…. Go figure

The DI20 has better range, that’s what I am using.

Absolutely a improvement on bugs, etc. as long as you turn off cams IR

Awesome video and thanks for posting! :+1::+1: That looked like a cute little cub. Momma bear had to have been close by. :fearful:

Sad results. My DI10 Illuminator, which is the 10W sibling to the DI20, 20W light shared by byronhu, is barely noticeable by my Wyze cameras. Back it goes to Amazon

**UPDATE **

Ignore the above as misinformation. I wasn’t testing the light on properly cfg’d cameras.

Thanks, byronhu!

Be sure to Turn Off the IR LED’s in camera But still put in night vision so the IR cut filter is out!

Your issue is in the settings

:person_facepalming: Now, THAT’S a horse of a different color!

Profuse thanks! Now I can light my bugs from a discrete angle.
